set down to write you a few liens not knowing whether they will ever reach you or not we are at this time away up White River a fleet of 32 steam Boats loaded with soldiers is at this place we expected to have a fight here but there was but a few Rebels and they run we got som guns and quite a lot of plunder from them it is very colde here at present and the snow is about four inches deepe how long we will stay here I do not know neither do I know wher / wher we will go when we leave here I ame well but we have a Rather a hard time direct your letters as befor to Helena I have not heard from you since we left Helena I hope you are well no pay yet do the best you can Borrow money I will write as often as I can the Bluffton Boys are all well but are seeing hard times Good by dear ons untill you heare from me again
