Dear wife yours of the first
of this month came duly to hand to day I ame always glad to heare from you but doubly so when I learn you are all well I hope you may all be blessed with healthe untill I see you again whitch I hope will not be longe a Boate has just went up the river and stoped at our camp a few minuits they say we have got the last Rebel boate on the river and at last the Missisipi River is cleare from one ende to the other and the Rebels are flying in evry direction before our victorious army and it is no use for them to fight any longer for they are whiped but if they wonte stay whiped we will have to kill the last one that shows fight. Malvina some one of the Boys I guess it is Tom Boden has been writing to Bluffton that I gamble and that I abuse the men have you hearde it if so let me know for it is a base lie. Tom is a mean Boy to get along with and some times I have been compeled to be cross with him as for gambling I woulde just as leave be guilty of stealing I hope there is no one in Bluffton who woulde beleive me quilty of sutch conduct. I ame glad to heare our trees are growing so fast if there is / any sprouts growing around the roots of the trees have them cut off as soon as the commence growing or the best way is to pull them up and they will stop growing. as I was out drilling the company day before yesterday we had quite a shock of earth quake it shaked the weeds & trees and was acompanied with a rumbeling nois like distant thunder some of the boys wer somewhat frightend. write often and I will answer your letters promtly let heare all the perticlears as I hav nothing more to write at present I will close

            yours most affectionately
