                                                                                    Tiptonvill Tenn June 11th 1862

                                                                                                            Dear wife as we are
expecting to leave this place to day I thought I woulde write you a few liens before leaving our destination is Memphis in this state down the River from here about one days run for a steame Boate from this place as soon as we arive there and an oportuinty presents I will write to you again I do not know at this time whether we will stay in the citty or be camped close to it we are going there to guarde the citty and to keepe down the Rebels for it is a sesesh hole I have been informed that the town is larger than Fort Wayne and as you have been informed ere this reaches you that our forces captured it last week and of course we will see some of those proude haughty sesesh Ladies who will snarl up there prety noses at us Yankee hirelings as they call us soldiers. I hope you are all well and doing well come Malvina let me heare from you as soon as you get this rest asured I will come and see you as soon as I can do so if I can do so I want to come as soon as we get paide off / again Oh how I longe to see My Malvina and littles ons but I must submit and do the best I can for instance I was at home to stay woulde be completely out of employment untill next summer here I ame doing well and I ame stout and hearty be of goo cheer and enjoy your selve and that will give me the greatest sadisfaction of anything else at present         yours most affectionately
