Dear Malvina
I set down to write you a few liens and to informe you that we are going to leave this place and are going down the River to Helena in Arkansas this eavning or to morrow morning Helena is ninety miles down below this place on the River I ame very glad to get away from this Prison as it is a very disagreabl Place I have been Captain of the guards foure weekes at this Military Prison night before last one of our Boys shot a man at the prison door for trying to run away from us as you will see by the papers I send you I cannot imagin why it is that I cannot heare from / that money I sent home I sent it on the 1 day of July and to day is the 23 day July but I live in hopes I will soon heare from it and that it has arived safe at home W S Buckles is well again my healthe is good never was better when you write to me direct your letters to me 47 Regt Ind Vols by way Cairo I hope soon to heare frome you my deare Malvina I ame as ever your most devoted Husband
