                                                                                    Helena Arkansas Sept 23the 1862
 
            Dear Malvina
                                    yours has just come to hand dated the 13 of this month I ame glad to hear that you are all well you say that deede has come to hand you can say to the person that has got it that it had been so long coming that I had given up the Idea that Hathaway was going to send it and had given up all Idea of buying the land but I will write to Hathaway on the subject I have not received one word from him on whether he was going to sende the deede or not holde on untill I heare from Hathaway you wish me to inform you whether you had better come down here and see me Malvina you know I would be glad to see you but for the Lordes sake do not come this is no place for a woman for this place is the next place to Hell do not thinke of coming to see me while I ame in the army and well stay and take care of our little ons. even if you was to start and expect to finde me here you might be disapointed for there is no telling how soon this army or our Regiment might move so do not entertain the least idea of coming you wish me to tell you when I think I can come home I have no idea when but the first / opportunity presents it selfe I certainly will come that you may rely on but if the reports are true that we heare at present I beleive the war will ende before a greate while you say you wish I was at home to get some peaches there is peaches here and I ame very carefull at present about eating fruit the flux or diarhea is very prevalent here at this time and in many instances it proves fatal several of my boys are very dangerous at this time with that complaint as for my selfe my health is good I hope I will heare from you as soon as you get this
 
inclosed you will finde a few seeds whitch grow on schrub they are nice I got them off a twig at the heade of a grave close to Helena I have never seen sutch in our Country plant halfe of them this fall and the rest in the spring do not plant them close to the end of the house for that is not a good place.         yours most affectionately
