                                                                                    Helena Arkansas October 24th 1862
 
Dear Malvina
                                    yours of the 11 inst came to Hand I was sorry to heare little Caty has the Ague but hope this will finde you all well as for my selfe I have had a very severe Colde for the last week but I ame geting over it slowly the Boys are Buisy Building there Cabbins to live in this Winter we have beautifull weather here at this time we have had no frost as yet the leaves are green on the trees the Gees and ducks are coming down from up North in great numbers the health of our Regt is improving some, the Doctors say. I received a letter from / John Passon a few days since he is in the Army for during the war he is in the same Company that your Brothers are in Frank Pettit is Captain of the Company they are away back in Minnesota after the Indians. I was sorry you had not got your wood hauled and when you do get it Hauled they will cheat you if they can watch out for I have had some experience in the Buisness. I hope the money has come to hand by this time I do not feel like writing at this time so I will Close hoping to heare from you soon          Yours
