                                                        On Board Steamer Moderator March 2th 1863
 
            Dear Malvina
                                    I set down to write you a few hasty liens hoping they may find you all well we have just Run in to a stream called Colde Water this is in the Eavning as I write we are at this time tied up and will lay still untill to morrow morning and then we will go ahead down the River but wher we will stop I know not the mail has just come to hand but no letter from you I hope soon to hear from you there is quite a number of Boats with us and also 9 or 10 Gun Boats the Boys are all well and full of life my health is good and we fare prety well aboard this Boat better than we usualy do on sutch ocasions I wrote you one letter before this since we left Helena as soon as you get that money let me heare from you amediately I sent it about eight days ago I expect you have got it by this time as I wrot to you in my former letter I expect to go Home in april some time during that month / as I have applied to the war Department for leave of absence for thirty days. I long for the time to come as I want to see you all so verry mutch there is not a night when I go to bed but what I lay and think of you before going to sleep. As I have nothing mutch to write about this time I will close hoping soon to have another opportunity to write to you my love to you all for Ever
