New Orleans La July 21the 1864
Dear Malvina
I will write you a few hasty liens this morning hoping they may finde you all well and in good Spirits probaly this will be the last letter you will receive from me writen at this place as we expect to leave here to Morrow for the East probaly to Washington or Baltimore we go by Sea it will I presume take us about eight days to go reach that Country when we get there we can get letters from Home in three or foure days time and will be mutch nearer Home the change Suits me very well but would Suit me mutch better to go Home. direct your letters to Washington D. C. hereafter. I will endeavor to write to you again before we leave we will not get paide here before going as I expected. it will probaly be two weeks before you heare from me again as I will not have an oportunity to write while on the journey but as soon as we land I shal write to you / you must be sure and write so I can heare from you as soon as we arive the Mosquetoes nearly eate us up here of nights of late they are the Meanest Mosquetoes I have ever seen I am as I have before saide very glad to get away from here I also feare the Yellow will get here this Season I think it is not here at this time it is at Key West in Florida the health is good here at this time but August and September are close at hand they are the Sickly Months here there are lively times at present the Rebels are going in but the thing will take a change in a very short time that is my opinion there has been a greate maney Soldiers taken from here to the East the Rebs will catch the devil there in a short time if they continue about Washington or Baltimore but I think they will be away from there by the time we get around there if not they will not have to fight raw Militia from Pennsylvania this is a splendid army going from here and will Fight no more at this time yours truly S J Keller
