New Orleans Louisiana July 22th 1864
Dear Wife
I again to day take the pleasure in writing you a few more liens yesterday I wrote to informing you that we expected to leave for the East in a few days I had not more than got my letter in the office than the worde was given to us for to get ready to go aboard of a Ship in one hour we got ready but did not go but expect to leave to day or to morrow as the Ship we are to go on has not arived as yet. I think we will Start to night or to morrow it is supposed we will land at Baltimore Maryland or Fortress Monroe our Soldiers are leaving here evry day by way of Sea Large Ships are here loadning with Soldiers. I am well Sadisfied to get away from here when we get around East we will be nearer Home we can get mail to and from in a few days I finde out geting mail here is very uncertain / you must direct your letters to me to Washington and they will reach me get Some one to back your letters. those Packages have not come to hand as yet if you can get a good Cow this Fall do so one that will have a calfe in the Fall or Winter. we will not get paide before leaving here in and about three Months from this time I think I will be geting out of the service be patient the time will soon pass by and then I have done my Share it is no use to try to resign at this time none but Negro Officers can get out of the Service in by resigning there is a better day Coming no more at present yours truly
