                                                            Morganza Louisiana August 13th 1864
 
            Dear Malvina
                                    I embrace the present oportunity this Eavning to write you a few liens hoping they may finde you in the enjoyment of good health as for my Selfe I am well our duty at this time is not very harde and I know not how long we will remain here but a few days ago I wrote you a letter in reply to one I received from you dated the 24 day of July I have received none from you since that time Doctor C received one from his wife about the same time She stated you was at her House and that you wer well. we heare but little news the last few days from Richmond or Mobile or Atlanta. it has been raining or showery the last few days and is rather disagreable weather but this has been rather a dry summer in this latitude this season so far /
 
as I have not got anything special to write about I will have to come to a Cose hoping soon to heare from you. the Boys are all well Enclosed you will finde some Tobaco seed lay it away in a dry place I want to plant a few stalks next Spring
