Memphis Tennessee Nov 30th 1864
Dear Wife
It is with pleasure I seate my Selfe this this Morning to write a few hasty liens yours of the 20th inst is at hand I was very glad to heare you was all well I expect you will be suprised to heare we are at this place we left Little Rock Arkansas the 24th inst and arrived here yesterday Morning and went in to Camp in the South East edge of Memphis on a beautifull peice of ground the weather is milde and pleasant Memphis is a nice place I would rather live in it than any place on the Mississipi River but halfe the inhabitants at this time are Negroes you was right in Saying you thought your letter would reache me before I Started Home but in 12 more days my time is out if they keep me to the last day but I think we will Start Home Some time next week we will not Start as Soon from here as if the Regiment had remained below as we can go to Indianapolis from here in three days I fear I will go Home without any Pay as I have nothing to write about I will close for this time I hope Samuel will soon be able to wright his own letters I am glad you wrote a few liens for him
