Silas C. Doolittle to Sister, 5 January 1865
Letter dated 5 January 1865, from Silas Doolittle, 75th New York State Volunteer Infantry
Camp Sheridan, Va.
Jan 5, 1865
Dear Sister,
I have set down in somewhat of a hurry to write you a few lines, for we are “off” tomorrow morning, but dont know where. We pulled up stakes at Camp Russell Dec. 30th, moved about 9 miles & have just fixed up again nicely & now we have got orders to move tomorrow at 10 A.M., by Rail Road. Perhaps we will go to Washington & perhaps to Petersburg, but the fact is, I dont know where.
We suffered a great deal with the cold until we got our cabin put up, & had just got it finished to day, fire place & all.
I will now close, for there is nothing to write about. Please write often & direct as before.
Your Loving Brother
Silas Doolittle
