Letter dated 2 March 1865, from Silas Doolittle, 75th New York State Volunteer Infantry
Savannah, Ga.
March 2d, 1865
Dear Sister,
Yours of Feb. 11th was recd yesterday & was glad to hear from home again. I recd one from Alice & one from Coleman a few days ago. They were both well. I recd one to day from Miss O. Spencer.
We have moved to our new camp in the park on Congress St. & have got things comfortable, but we expect to move in a short time, but dont know where. I think it will be to Charleston or back to Virginia again. Theres not much rest for a soldier but I dont care, we will whip them this summer any way. We may not move at all, but I rather think we will. We have now got 6 months pay due us and I hope they will pay us before long.
I am well & tough. so is all the boys from around there. Henry Blackmore came back last night. he looks first rate.
am almost too Cozy to write. I have got 5 or 6 letters to answer but I cant do it now. I will close now by making you a promise to write a long letter in a few days.
Your Affectionate Brother
Silas Doolittle
