Frank I have A fiew moments to write to inform you that night Beforst last we was cald oup By the Beet of the long Roll on the drum that meanes every on to fall in line of batle tha formed ous in line on the Bank of the river sutch times I never saw before some was sent to death and some hid in the tents sutch times tha Batery had harnissing thear horses in the [?] But tha was not long A doing it Before tha formb in a line of Battle with thear canons the caverley also the whole brigade was Redey in one our from the Rol beat on the drum tha ceap ous in line A Bout two ours and then dismiss ous nothing vary cerious happen that time yhesterday tha sent two company of the 75 Boys and two canons from one of the Baterys 30 men with 18 horses and one company of calvery down the railroad to meet the Rebels tha are bent on distroing the railroad Bridge A bout 30 miles from here so as to cut off our suplyes from neworleans But tha cant doit. last night or rather this morning we was cald A Bout 3 oclock in line of Battle A gain we had to stand till daylight god only knows what will hapen within the next 20 four ours for I dont and I dont cair for I won out for som sleep we have got some of the damdist cowards in our Regiment I ever saw for men that think themselfs vary smart tha will die with fright the soner the Beter. we have some firing back an forwards A crost the river at the Rebels tha hardley dare Attack ous yet we are Redey for them Eny moment. my cough is A Bout the same I have not aplide to the docter yet nor I shant I will die first I have stod it so long and I think I shall git A long with out his help he aint worth a dam to dockter hear or he dont care we had fifteen apply to the docter this morning that was sick or fraid of A Batle I think that is prity well for company A have 15 apply in one morning when we was cald in line of Batle we had only four hundred men what do you think of that out of 1000. men only 400 for duty that Beats all two months from now tha wont Be 200 men fit for duty I will wate till the cars arive from new orleans with the mail to night I might git a letter from you I will close att present the cars has come and no mail to night the mail vesil arived last night from newyork with fifty five mail Bag full of letters take two days distribet them all to different regments it will be oup to morrow night on the cars I will wate with patience But it seems A long time to me and not hear from you you must write once A week to me with out fail. what will happen to night I dont know and I dont care I jest as live Be in A Batle as to Be cald oup nights expecting it I send two papers with this letter good by to friends an foes
