waal Frank I ceap writing to pass Away the time. I feel A Bout the same as I did yesterday tha are onloding suger & molases vary bisey this morning that tha taken from the Rebels we expect the 114 Reg hear tomorrow tha say we shall have A mail oup to night I think I must git A letter from you tonight if the mail come oup I shant send this to night I will wait & see if I git one I shall Be writing A little all day. A fiew words to you, Mary A Delia, I think you mistd in hiring that farm this summer I would Run in the Roade Before I hired that farm taint no farm nothing But Eldears & stone & swamp if you had fifty acears of land hear you would think you was ritch if I could draw sutch land as it is hear around Brashear City & Berwick city for my Bounty land I would give you one half of it and then Be A Ritch man how meny cowes do you milk this summer it cant be meny on that farm and tha aint plow land on it A nough for A gardin that is as I new it. wall how does the Boy git A long is he will Eliza wrote that he was not vary well an your health was not good I hop you are all of you well and enjoin the comforts of this life for the next we no nothing About take comfort as you go A long that is all I can say I have not got your letter yett Frank sead you had writen me A letter it ma Be I git it the next mail thear was A mail steamer lost two or three weeks A go it ma Be on that wall never mind write Again I should like to hear from you in your owen hand writing I want you to send Elroy likeness and I will send him some mony when I git my pay to Buy him a dress with it is getting dark I must close for tonight. wall good luck to you, Mary A Delia tha may Be A day I shall see you Again But I cant tell when this is from your farthers mind say good eavning to you once more if it is in writing.            Asa Holmes    April 26, 1863
 
capt Beuca of company B got back last night he ses his company will Be in to day he ses tha are scaterd all A long with mules & horses & cattle I did not hear him say mutch when company A gits hear I shall git the whole perticklears wall I think I shall git my pay Before long the pay master arived hear on the cars last night so the 114 Regt will Back in time to git thear pay thear is A grate many sick solgears hear thear is five hundred in one hospitle & in the other two A crost the Bay thear must Be as meny in Each for mostley of the wounded are thear & on the Camp ground hear thear must be two hundred more aint fit for duty I know I aint cars leave must mail A Holmes
