we left Brashear City May 1th for New. I. Beria we went through patterson vill & Bisland & Center vill & franklin to New. I. Bearia staid thear two days & then started for oppalousas on the march A crost the plains to vumilion vill & lufcott & then to oppalousas & warhanton. May 10th twenty miles from oppalousas on the Road to Elexandra we are marching through A Beautiful county we are on the main Road that leads through texas to mexico and Arcancas & god knowes whear Elce for I Dont. we are in camp to night on A Butiful planttion. May 11th. we camp down for the night at Holmes vill thirty five miles from Elexandra I stand it vary well on the march. May 12th we in camp at Holmes vill Cheney vill we started in the morning for Elexandra march A Bout one mile had ordears to go Back to oppalousas A gain. May 13th we incamp three miles from cheney vill on the way Back we got within twenty five miles of Elexandra
 
I was A gonter keep A Reckeard of the march when I left Brashear City But I got tird of it so I write A fiew lines on the other side to inform you that I am A live yet my paper & ink is at Brashear City in my napsack with the Rest of my things we never Brot Eny thing with us hear /

good morning Frank arftear A litle Rest oundear A tree with the Balls & shells fling & Bursting A Round you tha calculate to make A charge on the Bresk works to night & shell them out. Banks has got his army plasd all Round them he has got one hundred cannon & mortersfix all A Round them Readey & the gunboats will throw shells from the River it will make sutch A nois one will think the world is coming to & End I wount discribe the dead & wounded that I see every day in this letter it is horable to discribe I have got usto it si that if I hear A shell coming I pay no tention to it. tell Mrs Coughflin David is well & A Brave solgear he & I are together yet he has Benn A good Boy sence he has Benn in the army he hears to me as he would to A partner tell her I hope we shall come out all Right we shall stick to one & other till death he never will see me suffer nor I him while we are fr A way from home. so mutch confusion hear I cant write when I git to A plase I will write. good By to all Eliza, Mary, A.D., Frank & all of the Rest of the folks
