Frank we arived on the Batle field june 1th day we have Benn hear Eleven days fighting I tell you it is hard Bisness I tell you to have the Balls & shels fly all A Round you our Regement last night got cut oup puty Bad Company. A. had one lieutenant wounded puty Bad lieutenant Starford Bad frebourn. young. sharp. Dregs. I cant write But A little now the Balls fling A Round me now we have drove the Rebels into thear Brest works and the fort we have got them surrounded Redey to shell them out & then charge on them this is to lett you know I am safe so far I cant tell how loung we shall hafter fight yet
 
I got your letter to day on the Batle field one april 27th one may 4th one may 26 one may 20 four Direct your letters as the same & I will git them Horis wood is at Brashear City lame he is out of this Batle good By to all if I come out safe then I will write the whole perticklears of the Batle it will take two sheats of paper to write it on it is A hard plase to take I tell you dont feel Bad for I might come out safe yet I Bid you all good By Asa Holmes write soon have you got my Check / that is sent to mr lewis the first day of july four months pay is Due me $52 Dolars
