Frank to draw my attention from the Roar of the canon & the muskertry whitch is going on now A Bout two miles from hear with the Rebels general wertzil has got 5000 thousand in line of Batle now he has got five Batterys with him six canons Each whitch makes 30 canons he has got five hundred caverley with him now to atack them to day to see what thear focisis is. we are or the 114 is hild Back for A Researve with 4000 thousand more troops to start Eny moment when cald on to A tack them in Eny directtion if it is nesersary general wertzil / calculate to take them all prisners or drive them into texis he is driveing them puty fast now By the sound of the canon for we cant But just hear it now if it goes putty snug we shall Be cald on to help four thousand fresh troops will help A grate deal & four Baterys with six canons Each whitch makes 24 more and five hundred caverley that will make the Rebels hunt thear holes I tell you Frank ask Charles stratton if he thinks he could set down in site of an army when the Batle comence and write as cool as I do now I dont think of Eny more danger then I was at home I have got so usto it I think / nothing A Bout it I dont lett it trouble me A Bit we took twenty five thousand stands of armes and seven thousand prisners I dont know how meny canons it must Be A grate meny at port hudson I will close writing for to day I have got to go out on pickett to night I ma git shot Before morning I cant tell good Eavening to all of you Asa Holmes
july 13th all wright this morning safe & sound tha Expect the mail oup this morning I hope so for I wanter hear from you Before I leave hear if I go the mail will follow ous lett ous go whear we will But I feel ancious to hear from you Befour I leave for I cant tell what will happen / I hate to leave hear for it is vary pleasant hear and helthy thear is A cool Breaze Blows hear most of the time it is pleasant to set on the Banks of the missippa and see the steam Boats pass oup & down also the gun Boats thear is four gun Boats liing hear now the Rebel general that had charge of port hudson is hear A prisnor & his staff & some other officers also. wall I must close our army is driveing the Rebels Back this morning puty far tha think tha will have them surrounded in two days and take them prisnors I hope so. this is tenn letters I have wrote sence the first of june this is my last paper and stamp fair well Asa Holmes
