            Frank I am well this morning I hope you are. the Regt are drawing close now I got me A pair of pantaloons one pair of shirts one pair of shous one two pair of socks one Blowes one havasack one tin cup in all it A mounted two twelve Dolars govement prices the govement price is stated on every artical of clothing so thear is no cheat A Bout it Every solger pays A like for every cind of clothing. it is hard for cloes on the march in the Rain & mud & then camp down for the night in dirt & mud it is hard on close I tell you. if I had my napsack & what close I had in it now that the Rebels took at Brashear I should Be puty well off for close But lett them go if nothing wors hapens I had in my napsack A Bout twenty Dolars worth of clothing & some litle articles Besides Frank I wrote to you that I had A dirke / knife A vary nice one it was silver plated all A Bout the handle I have Broke the back of it wher the spring comes together on the Back I felt Bad when I done it I can tell you I calculate to Bring it home to you I can git it fixt then I cant git it fixt hear. all Quiet hear in Louisana now & I think it will Be for we have got the Rebels puty tight now for tha cant make A move to do nothing if tha do tha know tha will Be cut all to peacis & thear is A Bought one half of the Rebels her wount fight Eny more onless tha are press into it & then tha say tha wount fight for tha have got tieard of it & have Benn diseaved A grate meny planters hear are for peace now so tha can hold thear property tha are wiling to take the oath of A legence now so as to save thear property when tha take the oath to suport the union thear property is protected then /
 
I wrote to you A Bout camp life in my other letter Dated August 11th & you will find also I was vary sory to hear that it was hard for you to write to me. I know it is hard for Mary A. Delia to write & always was for her to write & she aint got the time you have to neathear so I excuse her. I want you to write me when Elroy Birth Day is for I have forgotten I will make him A Birth day present then. I suppose it is A grate while yet. did sister git that letter I wrote to her in july I will send you A paper with this letter it cost me A grate deal for paper & ink & stamps & Envelopes & news papers hear Double what it dos in oxford. I dont cair Eny thing A Bout that as long as I win the mony Eazy for that is A solgers life to live what time he dos live & Enjoy it. thear is some so down harted & discourage tha dont take no comfort A tall tha ma as well Be dead as alive /
 
Frank I want you should Read Major. general. john. A. Logan. speech every word of it. I send you part of it in this paper with this letter & the Rest I will send in the nex paper to marrow & the & the nex paper nex day tell sister to Read it. Eliza I want you to Explain it to Frank as he Reads it. Logan has fought some puty hard Battles in this war he is tru to the goverment & union if we had sutch generals as he is & not trators as some of our generals have Benn this war would have Benn drawn to A close Before this time you wrote that george simonds had turnd Copper Head I suppose it was Because tha took his Boy Back to the army. sutch A man should Be Rode on A Rail & tard & featherd if I was thear I would help do it he will Repent the day I must Close good luck to all Asa Holmes
