Dear Mother
                        I now seat my self to let you know that I ame well & I thank God for it I have had the Dierea for about a week but I ame well now we have to gat used to the Climate before we will have our helth good they do not have any snow here we have had some frost & some Chily winds but not a nuff to freese the ground an inch thick we have a good deal of rain now and I sopose you have a good deal of snow it seams like the spring of the yeare as the peepers and frogs sings in the night /
 
Dear Mother I have writen twice to you since I left New york & I reseved one from ship you at Ship Island I ame allys glad to here from home & I thought that you would like to here from me we have not ben in any Battels yet some think that we will be home in June or July but I cane not tell. we have potatoes pork Beef hard Crackers rice Coffey Tea Shuger Molasses & some times soft Bread Beans & if we had a little of each cind cooked at each meal it is good a nuff no more at presant I send my respects to Richard & all my inquring Friends From your Son
