                                                                             Dollensville La July the 25 1863
 
Dear Mother
                        I received your letter and Paper the other day Mr Jones said that you herd that the reson I did not write was becos I did not have any paper there was a time when we ware in front of Port Hudson that I could not get any but we cane get lots of it now
 
Dear Mother I ame well at Presant hoping that thes few lines will find you the same the Rebels have left around here at presant and I think the most of the fiting is done in this State and I hope this war will soon come to a close. I ame cooking for the compeny / this week it is very warm work and I will not cook long I onley do it for a comadation we expect our Pay before many days. I do not know how long we will stay in this place but I hope if we have to stay here long we will get our tents down here as the sun is very hot I cane not think of any thing more at presant to write So good by I will write bfore long agen I send my love to you and Richard and all inquring friends I remain as ever your Son
