                                                                                     Baton Rouge La. Aug. 10, 1863
 
Dear Mother
                        I wrote a letter to you the 17 of July And I thought I would write to you agen to let you know that I ame well and have got back to Baton Rouge we came back the 31 of July And it seams some like home to get back here as we have ben here so long. we got Paid the 30th of July I sent home to S. M. Barker $25.00 we onley got two months pay. Dear Mother I do not know how long we will stay here but I would not be surprised if we staid here three or four months but I cane not tell any thing about / Onley what I guess at Dear Mother we have had some very warm weather and I sopose you have to I sopose they have drafted in York State by this time but there is one thing Serton thay can not draft me the Colnel has gone home to get some of the drafted men to fill up this Regment
 
Dear Mother we are making the Rebels run in this department if they will onley do something on the Patomack this Rebelen will soon have to come to a close. Mother I should like to see you very much would like to make you a visit if it was so that I could but if I cane get / a furlow some time this fall or winter I will go home and make you a visit. things are very hy here and I keep a little money to buy little notions when I want them I cane not think of any thing more at presant that would be intresting to you hoping this wicket war will soon end I remain as ever your Son

Dear Mother this is some of the Paper you sent me my love to Richard & James & when I get home I will tell them some ware stores
