Franklin La. Feb. 28th 1864
Dear Mother
this being Sunday and I having nothing much to do I thought I would write you a Few lines to let you know that I ame still engoying good health, and I hope these few lines will find you and Richard engoying the same Blessing Dear Mother I cane not write you much News at presant exept we will leave this place before long I think we will go to Read River and Maby Texas the Rebs is scerce around here I think there will be some Troops left here to keep the Gurrilles out / I would like to stay here all summer as thay say it very helthy we are onley 21 miles from the Sea Shore and 9 miles from thay Bay Salt watter comes up in the woods whare it swampy about three miles from here so you see we get the Breese from the Ocian. the weather is very pleasant here and has ben for some time Peach Trees has ben in blow for about two weeks the leavs are coming out on trees in the woods. I had a letter from Uncle John about two weeks ago I wrote him one I wrote to Samuel Barker to send me a pair of Boots and two cotton Shirts. Brodrick got back here the other day he has ben / home on a furlow I would like to go home on a furlow but I cane not get one all the Regts. that have served there time nerly out are Reenlist agen I think Old Abe is gong to have a nuff of men in the field this Spring to drive the Rebs to there last holes and cover them up so that they will never get out. we expect 4 months pay before long. I was vexanated the other day for the Small Pox it works a little. Dear Mother I cane not think of any thing more that would be interesting to you I will write to you if we leave here when I cane no more at presant my kind Love to Richard and your self & James McIntyre I Remain as ever your
