                                                                                                            Morganza Bend La.
                                                                                                                        Aug 9th 1864
 
Dear Mother
                        I now seat my self to write you a few lines to let you know that I ame well and engoying good health you will see by my letter that we have got back to Morganza we ware ordered from Vicksburg to report up at the Mouth of White River (Arkansas) that is 225 above Vicksburg we went up there I wrote you a few lines and sent my Pothagaph when I arived up ther we staid there about 2 weeks then we ware ordred to come down to Vicksburg from there to Morganza we arived here yestarday 12 M / the 19th Coarps our old coarps hase gone to Baltimore and I cane not tell wheather we will have to go there and goin them or not There is 35 000 Troops here now Dear Mother we are moving around pretty livly it is ove (400) hundred miles from here to the Mouth of White River but we went up and down on Steam Boats so you see we have not had it very hard I will write you more in a few days So good By my kind love to all hoping that these few lines will find you and Richard engoying good health I Remain as ever your Son
