Dear parents it is with the greatest pleasure that iseat my selfe this sabath evening to rite you a fewlines to let you no that weare all well at present and i hope when these few lines comes to hand they may find you in joy ing the same health thomas receave aletter from Mother on the 21 we halve had right smart of rain here but it never gets very muddy here for it is silver soil here and a great deal of sand the best ground here is the most sandyest it snowed alittle here to day and is getting very cold now we are agetting along very well we halve plenty to eat and ware Jonsontoppin got aletter from Wm R toppin / And he state ed that him and Esry mich ner would be along here this come ing week i think we will get to come home before long we halve not receaved our pay yet and i think that it will be held back for 3 months more we dray 4 pair of shoes ayear 3 pairs of pants 4 pair of socks one greate coat in 5 years 2 dress coats 2 blouses 4 shirts ayear 2 leather stocks in 5 years but we halve not bin ahuring the captain for them 4 pair of drawers ayear Jesse carter got aletter from Marion yesterday he is well but he sais that they halve hard times there ithink he said he was at Far Oax I halve in Joyed my self very well sines i started and i think the rest of the Boys has except Esry he is / Bin un able for duty for some times he has the rhuma tism I went over to the quarter masters department and got wayed an i wayed 177 pounds with light dress on and Thomas is hever than he everwas be fore i dont know his wait and all of the rest of the boys has gane ed but Esry we got the shaven tools and 17 plugs of to baco 2 pair of gloves and 3 pair of socks 1 quire of paper and 1 pack of invelops 1 hundred cigars Tell Joseph Homes that we are a thousand times oblige to him for them he state ed for us to smoke them and give the rebbles hell we are not close enough to them i halve not seen a rebble sinc i starte ed onely one night i dreemed about seeing some that is the closest i halve bin yet /
O yes Thomas and i got some toys in our socks mine was broken al up the Boots they fit very well and we halve rashings to sell Ben Hawthorn wants his pap to send him apair of boots i halve acople of tracks and acard that the captain gave me this sabat morning an i halve red them and i will send them to you to to read they are of importance Nomore this time but remane your sun G W Carter to his
