                                                                                                December the 16 1864.
                                                                                                Camp Near Petersburg. Va.
 
                                                                                                            Dear Mother
I set down to write you a few lines to Let you no how I am a getting a long I am well at presant and I hop those few lines may find you in the same good blessing I halve not had a letter from home for three weeks and I thought that I would wright a gane well we was out on a nother raid since I rote to you be fore we was at Hackeys run we halve come back to the same plase we was Jolley was here the other day and he looked well I wish you would send me them boots as soon as you can and we will not be apt to be Payed for untill / After Newyears and I would like to halve some money if it is conveniant to you and some stamps George Hanlin and I are a tenting to gather and he has sent for a lot of things and you can send me some I dont know what has got in the mail that it dont come more regular than it does they owe me six months Pay I halve not drawed only two months Pay since I came to the regment and I sent 30 of that home they owe me 90.00 dollars and I owe the sutler 20 of it well there is nothing a going on here of any importance and I will bring these few lines to a close to a close for the presant and try and do better the next time wishing to here from you at the earlest soon
