Camp Near PetersBurg. va.
Dear Father I seat
my self to scribble a few lines to let you know how I am a getting a long I am well and I hop those few lines may find you all in good health well they are a throwing some mineys over where we are there has bin several came over since I commenced this Letter the Artilry men are a working in front of the fort and they are fireing at them some of them goes over us they halve bin a fighting on the Left for several days but we halve not hered the Perticklers of it yet but I think that we halve rather got the better of them a cordon to the / the PetersBurg examiner we get one nearly every day some of the Boys exchange es with the rebs where we lay the fireing on the left of the line sounds like as if it was in the rear of the city our men must be a round the town for the line is in a circle there is nothing else that I can think of this time only I sent 30 dollars with the ordly and he a lowed to mail it at Pitts Burg or if he sees Ben Hawthorn he will Give it to him please send me some small Postage stamps to send Papers with we halve a chance some times to get them and you want to here from Richmond or petersBurg the worst is our papers dont come here every day well i will close for this time
