Camp Near Petersburg Va.
Dear Father
yours of the eleventh was receveed and red with much pleasure and I was glad to here that you was all well your Letter found me injoying good health you was a saying that Harry Anderson was at home again he must of got to go home on the account of the Election for there was a grate many there while I was there that had bin there for some time and they said if a man stayed there for a year he could not get only the one fur low while they stayed there if you see him tell him that i wish he may halve a good time well we halve a very quiet evening / with the exception of a few mineys tht was shot over our works before dark they halve bin a shelling the City with one of the guns that is in this fort for one or two knights now we halve bin getting the news from Richmond and Petersburg here pretty regular for some time but the captain a commanding the regment got the orders to halve it stopped they seam to halve a grate eal of confidence in Mack thre paper that we got the other day stated that if he was Elected they was sure of there independance and the Deserters that comes in say if we want the war over to Elect Abe there was only two votes cast for Leisure in our Company and I dont think that Mack will get any but Company A will give a majority for Mack they give Leisur 17teen votes the first Pa. Cavelry Give Larance 179 out of 200 hundred / they thought he would get less the day of the Election I think that Smith got all of the votes in the company I told them what kind of aman he was and I think that it made him several votes the boys said that they would vote for a lame man before any other and some of them asked me what he done for a living and I told them that Joseph Horner said that he peddleed Back Beries well there is nothing else that can think of this time so I will close for the presant from your dutifl sun
