                                                                                                September the 29=1864.
Camp. Near PetersBurg. Va.
 
Dear Father
yours of the 24th was receveed and I was glad to here from you and to here that you all was well your letter found me well we are a laying in the rifle Pits packed up ready to leave for some other point but I dont think we will go very far the 18theenth and 9 Corps is on the moove and the general beleaf is that they are agoing to deep bottom we are a laying on the front line in sight of the city the bat in front of us has some guns a bareing on the city we was up nearly all knight under arms the / Joneys made a charge on our left but I dont think they made any thing by it but they made us hunt our gofer holes about twelve O Clock the attack commencceed on the left and they passed it a long the line where we lay we halve to halve works on both sides the worst is in the rear our regment extends to the Apamatics river the Pickets has not done any fireing here yet for we halve the advantage of them for we can fire right down on them they are in the bottom and we are on the hill they are afireing on the left of us all the time there is nothing else of any im portance this time so i will close by asking to here from you soon
