Camp Near Petersburgh. Va.
Dear Father.
yours of the fourth was receve ed and red with much care I was glad to here from you and to here that you was well I halve not had very good health for several days but I am getting better now well they are still a knocking a way at Petersburg the Pickets is a fireing all the time in front of the works and the Artilry is a fireing once ana while our Company is a laying in the front and we dont do any Pickett duty but we half to do the fatigue they send us out every knight we dont work in front in the day time for the sharp shooters I got them stamps that you sent me and they came in good by / for I was a going to send for some there is nothing else that I can think of only a bout that Corn I rote and told you in a letter that I couldent say how much there was of it for it has bin so long that I halve for gotten a bout it the 85 regment Lays a bout a mile and a half from us here I halve seen the boys several times John Carter is in the same briggade I halve not seen him yet well I will close by asking to here from you soon your Ditiful sun
