Dear Mother it is with the greateest of pleasure that I seat my self to right you a few lines to let you no that I am well and the rest of the boys is the same we halve left the Camp where we was so long we lay about 2 miles back of falmouth but we dont expect to stay here long for they say we are agoing to go to the extreame right they are atalking of making of another attaced there the rebble papers sais that Stounwall was wounded in the battle and has died since and Long street was wounded there was some of our boys swam over the river and talked with them along time and 2 of the rebs came over with him and staid on our side the wether has bin very warm here for 4 or 5 days back but it is sprinkleing rain here now we can sleep here with our gum blankets over us / I Lost my woolen blanket and gum on the march I got my pickturs and letters and the Hymn book that Elizajane sent me but he wouldent give up the rest of the things I wish youns would send us a silk Hanker Chief apiece by mail if you please and some postage stamps I got 4 of John kelly and want to give them back to him for he wants them i expeck Thomas Butler was here yesterday we see him every once en a while he is in the 19th indianna regmt they halve bin out 2 years the rebs had commence ed retreet in be for we did over the river there Loss is heavy in that battle for they came up in close colum and our men charge ed on them with grape an canaster and they say that they layed in winrows over there they sent over here for medicine for there men but they did not get any /
