                                                                                                            June the 11 1863
                                                                                                Camp Near Falmouth va
 
                                                                                                            Dear Father
this day affords me the pleasure of wrighting you a few lines to let you know that I am well at present and Thomas is also and the rest of the boys except Jesse Carter and he has gon to the Division hospidle but he was a getting better when he started and I think he will bee a long with us again in a little while at least I hope so the rest of the boys is in good health at this present time Thomas and I was on picket the other day and we stud just a bove where they halve the pontoon briges a cross and there is a bout 4 briggades of our men a cross the river and some cavelry and a row of artilry all a long the river on both sides and our men is a throwing / up brest works every knight they wase not a fighting while we was on post but before we was away very far they commenced fireing on the support pickets but our artilry opened on the hole that they was sheltera’d by and they soon left for the hill our men drove them back on the right night befor last there army here is divided in 3 parts one has gon to the right the other is here to gard there depot there was one of the rebs shot one of our men on picket furnent Falmouth and Generel Hooker sent word over to lee that if he did not send the man over that shot him he would fire the toun and he sent him over I expect they will shoot him for it there is nothing of any importance to righ about at this time soiwill bring my few lines to a close /
