                                                                         Oct the 22. 1863.
                                                                           Camp Near seedes Runn Va.
                                                                                                                                
                                                                        Well Father I
seat my self this afternoon to Let you know that I am well at present and the rest of the boys is the same we fell back from the Rapidan to Bull Runn and had a fight at Brod runn and the rebs lost agood many men our loss was light they tried to cut off our retreat we was marching on one side of the Railroad and them on the other we got 17 piecces of Artilry from them and 6 hunred Prisners on the retreat we lay now where they was one week from yesterday they halve / Fell Back across the Rapihannic they shelled us here the other day while we was a making Coffee they runn a batrie up in the rear of us and had one in front but the cavelry took the one they had in the rear and 45 prisners with it there is nothing more at present istill remain
