                                                                        Dear Cozen,
As I have a few idle moments this evening I will use a portion of the time in writing you a few lines which leaves me verry weell and enjoying my self verry weell for several Days We have been camped at our present camp over a week. It is a splendid place to camp at On a verry high Hill in a Beautiful grove about one hundred yards from Rapidan River and one hundred and fifty from the Rail Road whare every thing is verry convenient. Our time is principally employed in fishing. We are drawing plenty of Rashens and with what vegetables & Chickery Milk and such like as we can buy We live finely. I would be glad that we could remain here all summer it is such a pleasant place But I fear we will be differently engaged before long I would not be surprised at any time to receive Orders to start on the March to engage in Battle. There will be some grand move made before many Days. We have a verry strong Cavalry force in front of us at Culpepper Court House. They are scounting around Daily But there are no Yankeys to be found this side of the Rappahannock River. Our Division was not in this last engagement at Chancellorsville was / then at Suffolk fighting every Day for more than two weeks. We had a verry hard mach from there here. Left there on the third of May and arrived at our present camp on the fifteenth a distance of 235 miles Our camp is about forty miles above Fredericksburg on the Rail Road leading to Manassas. We are on the extreme left of our Army I was verry sorry that I could not come to see you while at home But my time of staying would not allow it and I hope you will not think hard of me for not doeing so. Think you will not. I know I would have enjoyed my self verry much. But I hope the War will close before long so that we may all get to come home for good. I doe not think it will last longer than this year. I see no chance for it. Jane I had a splendid time with my Dulcy and some of the other Girls while at home I hated verry much to part with them But the best of friends have to part some times I will not weary your patience too much this time. Give my love to all the Girls. My Respects to all the Family. If you see any of Josiah Hardmans People find out what Company & Regiment Johnson Hardman belongs to and I will try to hunt him up. No more. Write soon, Your Cozen
