                                                Hilton Head    Augst 28th/62
 
Dear Mother
                        I recd your letter of the 20th and was glad to hear that you were well and that Martha was pleased with the picture. I am well at this pleasent time and I hope that these few lines will find you the same. you wanted to know if I remembered the day that I left home I remember it well just as thoe it was yesterday. I often look back and think of the time that I used to have when I was home and / Had no such Ideas that I would be down here in South. C. at this present time. I Regt is going on a reconoitering partty to morrow morning and I dont know where we are going we are to be ready to march at revelle in the morning we are to be gon 8 or 10 days I suppose it is to rout some Gerrilliah that is around on these Island and they cross over from the main and the other night they captured some of our men. we may go to Bluftown as thare is quite a number of them collected there. I will close as it is pretty near time to muster and I will write a londer and better next time. write soon From Your
