Camp of the 46th P.V
Maryland Heights Nov 22nd
Dear Brother
I received your welcome letters in good time, but was unable to answer them as soon as I could have wished, as I have been on duty for every day during the past week, either on Camp Guard, Picket, or as fatiuge party working on the fortifications on Md. Heights. Tomorrow I am to go on Picket duty on the Potomac to stay three days, so I thought I would write to you this evening. I had barely time to write to Mother to let her know that I had recd the box, for we have had but little time for to do anything for ourselves for the past two weeks
the Authorities are hurrying all they can to finish the fortifications on the different heights around here, and when they are finished I think it will be a pretty hard job to take them.
On Md. Heights today I noticed 3.=64 Pounders 5.=30 Pounders & 12 Brass field pieces, 12 pounders these are all stationed at the point where Jackson made his attack in Sept. there are at least 2000 men working on the fortifications on Md Heights alone.
I have no more news to give you at present
Give my love to Mother Sisters & Brothers
to all inquiring Friends & receive
the same yourself from Your
aff Bro
