Dear Mother
I received your letter to night and was glad to hear from home
About that hay I have had a line from Mrs Bond and come to think and what she says I hired the place as she says but I was calcualeing to keep a cow their this winter but Sumners going off so it was nocked it all into a cocked up hat I should have looked further before I hired that place but it was getting late in the spring and that we had got to go some where and that was the best chance that I could find and so if you can do better by moving you had better If you can find a place where the rent is cheaper enough to pay for moving I did not think that Sumner would leave you all a lone to do the harvesting and chores about the house
I am sorry to hear that Sumner is sick or that you heard that he was sick I have just been to see the Capt if I could or how I should direct a letter to Al and he said that he had a letter from Daniel a day or two ago and he did not say any thing about any of them being sick but I will write to Daniel to night so it will start in the morning the same time that this will and as soon as I hear from him I will let you know how he gets along.
I am glad to hear that Herman is better and hope that nothing will take place so that he will get up again
Philena said that you was going to send out another box and told me to hury and eat up what I had but she was to late I eat the last to day noon if you get this letter before you send the box I wish you would put in a small pocket handkerchief and a towel and be sure and have it marked plainer than my first one was for it had not been for Lieut Blood I don’t know as I should get my box as soon I did for they see my name on one side and the regiment was not very plain and was going to leave it and make a little inquiry about it before they brought it
as I want to write a letter to Daniel to night I must close Please write soon and give my love to all
your Dar Son
Thomas
