Camp in the wilderness Novem 29th/63
Dear old Gehosephat
Heare we are again I will say to you I received you very complimentary letter day before yesterday and was glad to Heare that you was well and family I have no very important news at the present I will inform you with plasure that our Ridgt is all mounted it is now the 18 Mo mounted Inft we Left Corinth on the 28th of Last month marched from corinth to Burnesville Miss on the Charleston and Memphis R.R. from thare to eastport on the tenn River had a littel fight near Iuka the same day we left Burnesville only got one man wounded and nary one killed killed 4 Rebs and wound several more and run the Rebs / through the woods 4 miles fighting and pouring it in to thaer Rear every jump that is the way we clean things down here Jack. the next day near Blue water Between Blue water and watterloo Alabama they fired in to us again wounding one man and distroyed one ambulance was about all the damage they don and one week ago today we had a fight near Linnvill Tenn in which we lamed them agin we lost 2 prisoners But Recaptured one of them in the same night the Rebs had Retreated back a peise and striped the prisoners and toack thar money and was selling thare close to the highest bidder when our Boys come on them again and poured another volley in to them when they run again like the devil was after them and one of the prisoners broke towards us when he com up to us he had 7 holes shot / through his cap coat and vest and the skin wasent broke so you see that is the way they use a Yankee here when they capture them we did not git ary man killed or wounded in that fight well I believe I shall close fore the present by asking you to wright soon it is now so dark I cant see the Rules so good By yours forever the same
