Friend Harriet
I again take my pen to write you but think it is your turn to write me. The mail came to camp today received three letters. I looked for one from you but looked in vain.

My helth is quite good now. I am all ready to go on the next expidition which is fitting out at the presant time. we expect to go on board the boats tomorrow or next day / we do not know where or in what direction we are agoing. Some think it will bee wilmington and some think Charleston SC. I hope the latter. would like to see Fort Sumter and Moultry there has ben so much talk about them.

There is a very large expidition fitting out: probably thirty or forty thousand men.

I have been with Albert today. He is getting along quite well. the Dr told him yesterday that there was pieces of bone in his arm which must bee taken out. he expected to have it done today but did not will have it done soon. He does not know whether he will have a furlough or not. probably he will. Sylvester is tough and harty. I believe he was / complaining today because he did not got more letters think he received one. The mail does not come here only once a week and when it does come we all expect to get a large mail.

I had some minatures taken a few days ago and will send one in this letter so you can see how rough I look. I believe when I enlisted that I said was not going to shave but altered my mind folks will sometimes.

I wrote you to send me one of Julias Photographs. hope you will have yours taken and send me one of yours at the same time.

I sent a very few things to Father in a box at Nelson Delains. I did not / have any thing worth sending to you and your Mother but hope I may get some trophy to send you while I am here.

I enclosed a dollar in a letter and sent to M M Ballas and directed him to send you his Montly Magizine for one year. I want you to read them and if I remain here to send them to me. we do not get much reading matter here. If I am not where you can send them to me you may keep them till I get home.

It would seem good to bee in old Brookfield about a week. I guess I have written about as much as you will want read this time so will close

Give my love to all and write soon

                                                            Yours &c Elbridge Hume /

I [?] understand that the soil in the virsinity of of the depot is very productive I hope it may continue so and all parties enjoy the products of the harvest. hope Aunt Alany will have all she can do in her new business and make it profitable. I do not think of any thing more now will wait till I get better posted
