Dear Parents I wrote to you the other day but did not answer all your questions I will tell you once for all that I dont want no shirts and if I did I should not send home for them as I can get them here cheaper than at home and just as good and I have stockings enough for the present when they are gone I will let you know my boots will last two or three months yet I got them mended a few / days ago I got the pepper you sent and you may send some more if you are a mind to I should like some black pepper two I dont know as I want any pills the lees of them the better I think I wont send for a box it will cost cnsiderable and will not do much good and I may never get it for I think we are not sure of staying here long and I get enough to eat here but I should like a little of your butter and Chease and some maple sugar but I can wait till I get home Mr Thomas was expecting a box when he went home and if it comes we are going to have it and that will be as much as I shal want it will be butter cheas sugar and sausage and that will be good he said we might have it and pay him what / it was worth the it will be here to night or tomorrow I lost part of the pepper you sent me last so I have not got a great deal but Switser has some so we are not out and shal not be out just yet when you get this send a paper with some red and black in it it rained yesterday after noon and turned round Cold last night snowed a little and frose it is cold today but we have got a warm tent so we shal not suffer from cold it has been very warm here most of the time when we came here I had a very bad cold and was not fit to do duty for a week or more but I have got all over it and am tough as as a mule now I am glad you are geting out timber what do you get for spruse / and what are cedar posts worth get out as many as you can do you think you will have hay enough to winter so many cattle I supose that you have got the oxen shod if not go and se how they can draw so big tree as you tell of when you get that old cow fat just driver her out here and I will sell her for you how are Mr Adams people has Frances got home yet what has become of George what is the Col. doing this winter tell henry to just write to me and I will what I am about and what he had better be doing before long tell him to come down on to the sacred soil of verginia and stop a few weeks and by the powers of mud he canot get away what have you done with my bees what is Mr Benton doing this winter I wish he would write to me I dont kow what elce to write so give my respects to all enqureing friends yours with respect Edward Grannis
