Fort Dimmer Oct 13th 1862
Dear Parents I am here safe and sound and so are most of the Co we have good bunks and blankets and live well we had a meeting here yesterday on th common and there was a prayer meting at the barracks of Co F last night the room was full and of good singers the Captan is a young man and a good one the men are all in good spirets and I do not think anny of them are home sick I was on guard day before yesterday the 13th went to washington saterday our Regt is called the best that one on the ground we have no small boys the 19th and 16th are here we are to be inspected this week / we have to keep very neat we have the rool call half past 5 AM sqad drill from 8 1/2 till 10 Co drill from half past 11 till one dinner at one drill from 2 1/2 till four perade dress at five we have beef poark and bread sugar tea coffee I do not think I can get away from as we think we shall not stay here than a week or to I have boon been to work on the cook house to day we have fixed it nice have g cooks George Hart B J Fletcer built the barracks George Farington is here to work for them they will finish tomorow Mr Goodwin is is their Clerk how do you all do I saw William Jones at the Depot write as soon as can as we do not know how long a stop we ma be here yours &c Edward Grannis
