I have marched from Camp Seward monday afternoon it was 10 miles and was dark before we got here so we encamped about half a mile back in some bushes and built fires of brush that had and dried in the morning we marched up here and piched our tents the whole brigade is encamped near us and is going in to winter quaters here doing picket duty ware we are going to build log houses cover with boards plaster wh with mud and have stoves in them there is wood close by Corpl Thomas tents / with me he has the runatisum very bad but is get ing beter the Cook is better of his cogh & I have had a cold but it is about gone the other two ar well day before yesterday I went over to fort Lyon to work in the ditches their was 600 men ott out of the Reg that went to day we went again but it snowed so that we came back it has snow four inches to day at half past 12 we fel in to go down Alexandria to get our arms when we got their we turn about and marched back again and was told that they would be brought to us we are two miles and a half from Alexandria 10 miles from Washington I have not seen enything that looked like / winter as to day the wind blows and the snow flies how is it up thare we have straw to lay on and keep warm we are going to have a stove in our tent soon we have moved about as much as we wanted to we have marched from washington to arlington hights from there Capitol Hill from there back to arlington hights from there here and here we want to stay and think we shal if there is eny boys up there who think there is much fun for a solder tell them to try it I thought their was and I think so yet we have lots of singers in camp / one man in Co H St johnsbury did dad the other day he was sent home to be buried he had the lung fever his funeral sermon was preached last night it was the first deth in the Reg how do you all do I have not had a letter since I came here Bennie came to camp seward last sunday he had a letter from home the day before I went over to the 12th mon tuesday and seen Capt Chamberlin and his brother they are all the m[?] men besides exept the Guildhal men that I ever saw before I came from home have you sold the butter yet what is it worth I gues I wont any mor from your soger Edward
