Dear Parents I recieved your letter last night and was glad to hear that you was all well I had a bad cold when we got back from Bull Run but I am geting well fast and shall be all right in a day or tou we had a hard march when we came back but it was better than to have camped out as it was a cold night and we marched through in 11 hours 25 or 30 miles we had our choise to come through or not and I am glad that we did it as it snowed the next day and has not / of yet we had our Thanksgiveing last monday had apples and oysters we went out on picket tuesday came in yesterday our Regt is agoing to move abut about a mile from here up onto higher land the Doctors say that it will better for our helth and I think it will Co. B. at the left and on the lowest ground has lost 7 men I dont know what made them die more than other Companys but I think it the location must have something to do with it we have not lost a man and but 3 or 4 sick ones and not eny dangerous sick our Capt has not got well yet bt is gaining / we a great deal helthyer than some places in Vermont some of the men in our Co o have with lettrs sad news in them some have lost their Children some their Wives I heard it said that the 16 Regt had not lost a man I donot think you have heard of a volentary march made quecker and farther than we did and I think that the Regt. is better of to day than if we had staye here as their was just about excitement enough to make men feel well when we came in to camp w we came down through the 12th the leute. Col. told to wake them up to sing John Brown which we did and I think they heard us for / we made some nois I was not very tired but was rather sore and stif but got over it in a day or two we are going pul down our house move it in before long some have not built houses they will now on the new ground I hear that we are under marching orders but donot know how soon we go nor whare so you se that a soldier does not know whare he stops nor how long but nevr mind that we are good for it I hope if we march that we shal have good weather I do not think of enything more so I will stop here from your son
