                                                                                    Court House Dec 13 1862
 
Dear Parents we marched yesterday morning at 5 oclock arived here about 4 oclock last night after marching 16 miles with knapsacks on two days rations and 40 rounds of amunition and guns which would weigh 65 I thought when we started that I could not come so far but I did and wont much tired neither and feel a great deal better than before we encamped in the woods last night a the Col. is out now / hunting up a place for to Camp I supose we shal stop here a few day as the soldiers that were here when we came in from union Mills are all gone our tents have not all come but the teams have gone back to get them and our stoves the village of Fairfax court house is a dirty mudy place about one tenth part as larg as lancaster the court house is an ordinary looking building the 14th marched in front and a great many fell out but our did first rate their was not a man fell of Co G we are ready to / March … we have halted now about half a mile from our last night encampment on the spot whare we eat our supper thanksgiveing night our tents are on the road and I think we shal stop here a little while but not many days a soldier is a curious fellow he will pick up house and furniture an of he goes and stops whare night overtakes him cares for no one and fears nothing
 
            Dec 14th
their was a division of about 25)1000 men encamped near us last night they were Md. and Ny men they marching / this morning and will be all day and their is another Division one days march behind them we are not going in till they get by they are 3 years men from Harpers Ferry we expect our stoves today and tents it is a nice place to stop we have plenty wood and watter and enough to eat their has been 70)1000 men past here in the last week and stil may come. I have just been to meeting and now comes some cavelry artilery and their is 42 Regts more behind
