Dear Parents I rcieved your welcome letter last night and should have o writen then so to have one go out this morning but it was late and I did not have candle enough so I will write this morning I forgot to date my letter in the right place so I will date it on top it has not rained much yet and it is very warm it looks like rain now but we have droal weather here it will begin to rain in the after noon and rain till ten or eleven at night then turn cold and damp / and frese up solid before morning we have had two brigade drills and one Battalion skirmish this week we have had a Battalion or Brigade drill every fair day lately and I think they will keep it up till it becomes mudy then we shal have be idle their was two men came here last night from Lyndon Vt. when they go home our Capt. will go with them Mr Cook is well he wrote last sunday and one a week ago sunday I hear that our army was beaten at vixburg and Galveston when such news as that comes in to Camp it scares some of the dough dunks Democrats so that dont know whare they / last came from and they say if they could get home they would never come here agin they go to Canada first it is a pitty they did not go before for they are not worth much here only to do the grumbleing and when they see a nigger on a horse or mule then they will growl becaus they have to go foot but I like to see them ride it makes feel nice most of the mule teams are driven by negros their is from four to six on a wagon and a nigger on the near wheel mule with a big whip and he drives with one rein I am glad you had so good luck geting out timber get out all you can if you can sell it / we have burnd more than a 1000 dollars worth of better white oak than ever grow new England since we encamped on this ground most of the timber here is oak and Chesnut and walnut did you get the letter I sent you from Sam I dont think of eny thing more to write

the dollar you sent was very welcome
you seem to be woried a great deal about a ruber blanket I have got a good large one and you might know I should have without asking I sent for all I want but some mustard what did you get a pound for your beef I dont believe it payed for fating I think you must have a lot of tripe
I dont know whos picture it was I sent you it was one that was in a package of papper I bought
