                                                                                                Fairfax Stasion Feb 19th 1863
 
Dear P I recieved your letter yesterday after noon was glad to hear from home and that you was all well I am well and geting along nicely time never went of so fast before as it does here it seems but alittle while that we have to stay now we had another snow storm day before yesterday it fell 9 or 10 inches and yesterday it rained in the after noon and last night so most of it was gone now it will make it mudy once more Lut. Hall with 30 men went day before yesterday to Union Mills to put up a Telegraff line from there / through to Wolf Run Shols whare the 12th and th 13th are it was so stormy that they did not begin to work tl till 3 oclock PM when it stopt snowing they began and cut the posts set them and 8 men who went with them and put up the wire they got back before night yesterday and put up 8 miles of wire a I think they worked very well for soldiers Switser and I bought a barrell of apples the other day for five dollars and sold them for 6.60 and eat all we wanted besides I am going to send you a record or muster roll of the Co before long you must get a frame for it if you get it /
 
their was a skirmish betwene the Cal Cavelry pickets at Union Mills a short time ago the Rebs took 20 of our men but our men got them back again and kiled 5 of the rebs the have a picket line on the other of Bull run so near that our men see them and talk with them you wanted to know who my tent mates were Mr Cook is one of them the other three are not what I wish they was but we get along well togather the worst fault they have is they dont know much only to play cards but that they cant do in the tent and so they go into some other /
 
their was an inspection of arms (day before) yesterday at 11 oclock by the board of servay to see if we could not get them condemed and get new guns I hope we shal get them for it will be less work to take care of them switser had a letter Corpl Thomas he is at Brattleburo in the General Hospital he said his helth was not so good and his lameness no better I think he will get well in the spring how do the Cattle and horses look John must give my colt afew oats evry day how does the hay last I have taken up all the room so I must stop I did not get the pepper you sent but I got 3 pappers the other day from your affectionate son Edward Grannis
