Dear Parents
I recieved a letter yesterday from Lowell stating that you was there I ws glad of it I hope you had a good visit I answered Ellens letter yesterday I have not got the paper that you said Uncle Louther sent but papers dont come so quick as letters and sometimes not at all when you write again send me a fine comb and a corse one to if you are a mind to perhaps you will think that I want to catch lice but that aint it for I have not got eny and dont want to have I should not send for a fine if I could / get it here I had one but it is broke all to bits we had a Battalion drill yesterday and today the Co. has gone out for target shooting I do not go very often to shoot I can do about as well as eny of them one day I went out and did as good shooting as the best and I have been out twice since and did not as well as at first I bl belong to the Color guard which can consists of 8 Lance Corpls and a Sargent who caries the Colors our Company is now the 6th Co. that on the left of the Colors or the right of the left wing so that I stand in the centre centre of the Regt and one man betwene me and the orderly Sergent of our Co. some of the Co / Corpls are a little jelous of us for we have nothing to do but go with the Colors and then they know we rank an a notch higher than they I dont be know as I ought to say it of them for they have a hard time enough it is very warm to day and the mud will soon dry up if it dont rain are you going to sell the oxen this spring I should think you could spare them or one of the horses well enough which horse did you go to Lowell with and how long did it take you to get home their was a lot of Cavelry went by here this afternoon their enough to reach from our house to the falls 2 a breast / it took nearly an hour for them to go by and they went in quick time and sometimes more than that I supose they were the same Brigade that went from washington a few days ago on their way home as it was said they only had three days rations when they lt left washington they have been out through Centreville and and towards the rapahanack to drive Stuarts Cavelry out as they have been makeing a raid on our picket lines I did not learn what sucksees they met with I dont think of eny more worth writing from your
