Dear Parents I take this opertunity to let you know that we strike tents tomorrow morning and leave here at 7 1/2 oclock A M for Union Mills I supose to do picket duty there 16th will go with us the 14th goes to Wolf Run Shoals it is warm to day and was yesterday but day before yesterday it snowed and was cold we go out at 2 oclock this after noon for inspetion of arms and amunition which we always haul when eny thing new turns up we have been here about long enough we came / here the 20th of Jan.
 
I went down to the Shoals last week and found Capt Chamberlin sick with fever but geting well his brother is not well but I think he will bee before long he is troubled with the Virginia quick step I had a paper from you yesterday and was glad to get a little news from Claremont I should should think that the copper heads would feel mean enough to crawl into some hole and stop the rest of their days they do more help the south than you know of I wish that evry one of them was oblighed to come out here and live in fly tents / and cary their wood half a mile as some of the soldier have done sometimes it will not do for them to talk sesesh in Vermont when this Brigade gets home if they do some body will get hurt I supose that wee shal have to stop in shelter tents now but if we stay at Union Mills we shal have good barracks as it dont take long for a soldier to build a house some of the men are sick now mostly with colds but I am well and think that I can stand a march finely it is now four oclock and we have had our inspection I think Sargent Chamberlin most well for he is out here to day I saw him going past here in an ambulance with another man he looked smart I did not have a chance to speak to him as it was when we were out on inspetion I dont think of eny news to write but when I get down to Union Mills I write again I think we shal have our tents caried as the cars run near where we shall encamp I got the letter with the worm wood you need not be afraid of my get haveing the delirum tremans for whisky is to high I have just had a good supper of fried potatoes and soft bread we shal have beans for breakfast the box has not come yet but it is not time for it we have meetings here evry Sunday when it dont storm the paper is all covered and I must stop so good by till next time write soon from your affectionate son
