Union Mills Va. March 25 1863
Dear Parents I will write this morning and let you know that I am here safe and sound we came on the cars it was the first ride we have had since we came in to Va. all our tents and and Camp equipage is here my tent was the first one up on the ground we brought all the A tents up from the cars before the teams got here we got here about 10 oclock got our tent pitched about 2 PM it began to rain about five at oclock and rained all night but the boys all slept dry and warm their were two Regt. encamped near here and they left when we came / so we went to their old camp and got all the boarels and boxes we could find and layed floors in all the tents one Regt the Pa. reserv or buck tails as they are caled were on the same ground we ocupied when we were here before the other was the 10 156th N.Y. the same that retieved relieved us when we left here the 4th of tast last Dec. they have all gone to Centreville we are the 2ond and they are in the 3rd Brigade in Caseys Division their was 3000 Cavelry here that left just as we marched up from the cars but their will be more to take their place I dont know how long we shal stay here but I think not long we are encamped about / 50 rods from whare we were last Dec. on a nice piece of ground it is about 3 miles from the old Bull Run Battle field if we stop here long enough I shal go out there it is very warm this morning and the sun shines so that the mud will soon dry up the mail is waiting and I must stop
