July 3rd
Dear Parents I recieved your letter the 25 of june just were we were leaving union Mills and have not had time to answer it we have marched 8 days I was not able to march and cary my knapsack so the Doctar told me to go with the teams, so I had nothing but my gun to cary. their was a Battle come near day before yesterday the wagon left the of the Brigade / left night before last our Regt has 6 wagons their is 3 or 4 men go along with each wagon to guard them I have charge of the all the guard of the Regt. I heard our Brigade went into Battle yesterday after noon their great deal of cannonadeing last night and this morning the fight is 20 miles from heer our folks have found the best way is to have the bagage train out of the way when their is afight so that they wont loose them their is more / than a 1000 teams parked within a mile of here we marched 20 miles yesterday and perhaps shal da to day or we may stay here that depends on how the Battle turns I should like to hear from the boys to day but perhaps I shal not I wont write eny more now so good morning
